As excerpted from "Integrating Query of Relational
and Textual Data in Clinical Databases: A Case
Study" published in the Journal of the American
Medical Informatics Association: With
regard to indexing performance, "dtSearch ran
considerably faster than MS-SQL ... dtSearch
took from 3.5 [to] 4 hours, whereas MS-SQL took
from 20 [to] 28 hours." With regard to search
performance, of 14 test queries, "dtSearch was
faster in all of the queries except two" and
"documents returned by dtSearch are always equal
to, or a superset of, the documents returned
by MS-SQL." Further, "There were no false positives"
with dtSearch. A chart comparison of dtSearch
with MS-SQL, Oracle, and IBM DB2 also found
that only dtSearch had all 17 search features
listed. "Based on the above benchmarks, we elected
to use the dtSearch engine for text indexing
and searching of data.”
